There was great news for the society on Saturday last, 27th May, when the annual nominations for the AIMS Adjudication & Awards Scheme, sponsored by VW and Finance Matters, Thurles, were announced. For the fifth year in a row, Castlerea Musical Society has been included among the list of those nominated in the national scheme.
This year the society has been nominated in the Best House Management category for our production of "Oliver!". The society was previously nominated in this category in 2003. The nomination is just rewards for the society, and in particular Angela Webb and her front of house team, who have the unenviable task of preparing our very unconventional venue for a week-long musical run.
Also nominated in the Best House Management category are Shannon Musical Society for their production of "The Wiz" and Londonderry Musical Society for their production of "Guys And Dolls".
The nominations were announced by RTE personality Ronan Collins at the head office of MDL in Dublin. The winners will be announced on June 17th, during the annual AIMS Seminar in the Gleneagle Hotel , Killarney.
We also extend our best wishes to all those nominated this year, but in particular, our fellow Western Region societies in Galway, Sligo, Athenry and Ballinrobe.
Among those who received nominations this year were Dave Langan for Best Male Singer with Athlone Musical Society, Cathriona O'Connell for Best Comedienne with Athenry Musical Society and Sean Hosty for Best Supporting Male with Galway Musical Society. All three took part in our "Stars In Their Eyes" fundraiser last year, when Dave performed as Freddie Mercury, Cathriona performed as Tina Turner and Sean performed as part of Westlife.
