Castlerea Musical Society are delighted to announce that our next production will be the lively jazz classic, "Hot Mikado". The actual performance dates have yet to be finalised, but the show will take place in the last week of November 2006 in Riverisland Nite Club, Castlerea. The timing of this production is a change from our traditional run, which would normally take place in February or March each year. The change of time is due to the availability and in accommodation of our production team for the show.
The production team for this year's show is headed up by our new Director / Choreographer, Mary McDonagh, who hails from Sligo. Mary is one of the most experienced and respected choreographers in the country, and has received numerous nominations for her choreography from AIMS, including winning Best Choreography in both 2003 and 2004. We are delighted to have Mary on-board for this production and the whole society is very excited about working with her on this very demanding show. The rest of the production team is made-up by our new Musical Director, Niamh Crowley, who is also from Sligo and we are delighted to welcome back Castlerea-native, Martina Hawthorne, as our Chorus Mistress.
"Hot Mikado" is a funny, lively, vibrant, jazz-filled show that is based on the Gilbert and Sullivan classic operetta, "The Mikado". It is a show very challenging show and will require a huge effort from the whole society to make it a success, but the society feels that it is up to the challenge. Some of the better known songs from the show include A Wandering Minstrel I, Three Little Maids and Swing A Merry Madrigal.
Auditions for this show will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday 3rd September in the GAA Centre, Castlerea. We look forward to welcoming all new members on the day and hope to see all our regulars too. Once the actual dates for the show are confirmed, they will be posted on the site. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting the webmaster.
