The society was well represented at the recent AIMS Seminar which was held recently in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney over the weekend of 15 - 17 June. The highlight of the seminar is the annual awards banquet, which took place on the Saturday night. The banquet included an awards ceremony, which is the climax of the Adjudication & Awards Scheme, sponsored by Volkswagon.
For the fourth year running, the awards ceremony was hosted by actor Simon Delaney. This year, the society was nominated in the category of Best Choreography for our production of Hot Mikado, with the award going to Greenhills Variety Group, Dublin for their Irish Premiere production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.
The society was well represented at the seminar, with approx. 17 members travelling for the weekend, and by all accounts, all thoroughly enjoyed a weekend that is renowned as a great weekend of entertainment and socialising with other society members and friends.
This year the awards for Best Overall Show went to Gorey Musical Society in the Gilbert section for their production of Oklahoma! and to Imagine Theatre Company (Waterford) in the Sullivan section for their production of Into The Woods.
Our congratulations go to fellow western region societies, Galway, Ballinrobe and Boyle, on their respective wins. Galway won the award for Best Gilbert & Sullivan Show with their production of The Pirates Of Penzance and Ballinrobe won the Best Programme Award for Hot Mikado. Boyle Musical Society received their first ever award, Best Comedian, which was awarded to Castlerea local, Daniel Doherty, for his performance as Bill Snibson in Me And My Girl. Daniel has been nominated a number of times with our society and we are delighted for both him and the society in Boyle on their success.
