The society celebrated 40 years of activity during a gathering in Tully's Hotel, Castlerea on Saturday 5th September last. There was a good turnout of both past and present members, who firstly attended mass, celebrated by Canon Fitzgerald.
Following the service, guests enjoyed some refreshments before dining, during which a slide show of past photos and videos was enjoyed by all. A wonderful display of old photographs, programmes, posters and newspaper cuttings also proved to be very popular on the night.
Following some words from Chariperson Ivan Moran and President Angela Webb, a four-tier cake, representing four decades, was cut by Angela and Christy Glynn, two stalwarts if the society. Entertainment was then provided by the Phoenix Showband, which rounded off a wonderful night, especially for those who renewed acquaintances with long-lost friends.
A commemorative booklet, compiled primarily by Daniel Doherty and Yvonne Hanbury, which includes past photographs, stories and memories from down through the years, was also launched on the night. The booklet is now available for purchase at a price of @euro;10 in Mulvihill's Newsagents, Castlerea, or directly from Angela Webb, Main St., Castlerea. Angela can be contacted on 087-2250425.
