The following is a letter that was recently received by the society:
Dear Friends,
We are writing to inform local Musical and Choral Societies about an exciting new Show, which will be staged in November 2010 at The Theatre Royal Castlebar. The new production entitled 'On A Wing & A Prayer' - the Musical, was written by Terry Reilly, former editor of the Western People Newspaper. As many of you will already know, this is the story of the famous Monsignor Horan and the building of Knock Airport.
Terry has very kindly offered our Foundation the proceeds from the first three/four performances of the Show. The Royal Theatre will be available to us from Monday the 22nd to Sunday the 28th of November. The Show is to open on Thursday the 25th and will run Friday and Saturday with the option of an extra performance on Sunday.
We feel the Show has a great potential and it will have huge local appeal. It has both humour and pathos that will evoke smiles and tears. We are planning to hold auditions and we would love to hear from any of your members who would be interested in being involved in the production.
We are absolutely delighted that Terry has chosen to support our Palliative Care Service in this unique way. We feel the Show has a potential to raise serious funds for our service. The economic downturn has had a significant impact on our fundraising and the past two years have been very challenging. Thankfully the people of Mayo and Roscommon are very generous to Hospice but, as you can imagine, it takes a lot of hard work to raise over €1 million, that is needed annually, for the service.
Members of your society who are interested and willing to be involved can contact the Hospice office Knock from 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday or myself at any time on my mobile: 086-8565252.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Your sincerely,
Cynthia Clampett
