A word of Thanks from Goal

Following the society's donation to GOAL's Haiti relief fund, the following correspondence has been received:

Dear Mr Callaghan & Friends,

Your generous donation of 1,400 euro has helped ensure that since the Haiti earthquake on 12th January this year, GOAL has been able to distribute 1,300 metric tonnes of rice to some 300,000 people in Port-au-Prince.

We have also delivered non-food items, such as plastic sheeting, kitchen and hygiene sets, blankets, jerry cans, mosquito nets and medical supplies to 2,260 families (circa 14,000-15,000 people), and are preparing to deliver to a further 1,600 families.

GOAL has expanded its operations to five districts of Port-au-Prince, and over the next two months will distribute a further 9,400 metric tonnes of food, comprised this time of rice, beans, cooking oil and salt.

As well as in Haiti, our work continues apace in 10 other countries in the developing world. A few examples of these are outlined below:

- GOAL is the sole provider of access to primary healthcare services to 300,000 people in South Sudan

- Recently, we completed the building of our 1,000th house for Aids orphans and vunerable families in Uganda

Without the generous support of yourself and others, our work on behalf of the poorest of the poor in the developing world would not be possible.

I want to convey my appreciation and that of everyone at GOAL for the help you have given us.

Much appreciated,

John O'Shea
