There was great excitement for the society over the weekend as the nominations for the AIMS Adjudication & Awards Scheme '10/'11 were announced. The society's production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" has been nominated for the Best Stage Management award, with Mary Heaney as our Stage Manager.
The nominations were announced during the AIMS Choral Festival in New Ross, Co. Wexford on Sunday last, the 22nd May.
The society has been nominated alongside Dundalk Musical Society's production of The Wizard of Oz and Real Theatre Company, Dublin's production of Les Miserables School Edition.
The award winners will be announced at the AIMS Awards banquet on Saturday 18th June in the INEC, Killarney. A large group from the society had already made plans to attend, but there will now be an added edge of excitement for the weekend.
There is another local connection to this year's nominations - Erica Flanagan, a native of the area, has again been nominated for Best Female Singer for her role as Katisha in Nenagh Chorla Society's production of Hot Mikado.
The society is also delighted for our neighbouring groups who have also been nominated. Our stage school director, Peter Kennedy, has been nominated for Best Actor for his role as Teyve in Patrician Musical Society, Galway's production of Fiddler On The Roof. Ballinrobe Musical Society's production of Come The Dawn has been nominated for Best Overall Show and Claremorris Musical Society have been nominated in two categories for their production of Oliver!
Marian Choral Society, Tuam have also received nominations in two categories for their production of Titanic The Musical, and Galway University Musical Society have been nominated for Best Choreography. Sligo Musical society have been nominated for Best Director, St. Mel's Musical Society, Longford have been nominated for Best House Management and 9 Arch Musical Society, Claregalway have been nominated for Best Female Singer. Finally, Athlone Musical Society have received nominations in two categories - Best Male Singer and Best Female Singer!
